[...] Gregg Gillis, known to the world as Girl Talk, is more than a master manipulator, masher, DJ or producer..he’s a performance artist. Backstage at the Roseland in Portland he was suiting up with a grey hoodie, dark glasses and stuffing rose petals down his pants. Meanwhile the restless 1500+ crowd was pretty much screaming its collective head off. Gillis stepped out of the wings, the crowd went nuts and he started out by lecturing the security staff and then jumped down into the mosh pit. He was instantly swallowed up and suddenly the crowd is the show! No stage required, no hip hop posturing with folded arms, just damned fine mixes and the energy from the audience – this is punk….. Because the stage was empty I was able to grab a ton of well lit footage so there’s a couple here and the rest will be up on YouTube real soon. Big question. Why didn’t Girl Talk headline this festival? Here’s the video.Girl Talk meets the audience. And here’s a video of the last cut of the night. [...]
this show was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good. i can’t understand why he doesn’t headline every festival he goes to. i’ve been to an impressive amount of concerts, and while lots have been good, nothing can compare to girl talk. i have never seen an audience more in to the music at every single show. i saw him last month at the capitol hill block party in seattle and it was just unreal. this man is a genius.
