Jolie Holland, free MP3, new album
August 8th, 2008 by Dave Allen
I am really looking forward to the new album from Jolie Holland. I spent time with her last weekend at Pickathon and had a great conversation about “being in” the music industry from an artists POV. We share the same ideas of what that exactly means. Anyway, I turned around and there she was playing piano in the field behind the stage so I shot a short video. Below is a new track from the new album The Living and The Dead that is released 10/7 on Epitaph.

Sweet vid! I loved that old piano. I can’t believe that a band hauls that thing around for every show.

Hey! Dave! Nice to meet you–great hanging out with you in tiny morroco backstage there–pickathon is awesome–I sure hope the farm and the festival continue to go on un-molested by the mean old bank and etc. The guy on bass is Nate Lumbard, of The Rank Strangers who went on the road playing guitar with me for a tour, and the guy on drums is Huck of Oz Street Fossils fame, prevously of the Kitchen Syncopators. take care–see you next time–x jh

What happened to the vid that was posted on pamplemoose and the pickathon website of Jolie performing live? It was a great reminder of how good the festival was. Put it back up immediately. : )

@Ben,
Jolie’s management didn’t like it and asked me to take it down…..WTF?

WTF is right.
That grainy video captured just right the swirling sound of “Mexico City”. How am I supposed to help sell albums and give word of mouth when they yank a unique, prime sample of a pure performance? In the modern age of music and great decline of major record companies, who’s horrible judgement was it to take away publicity and substance from existing and potential fans?
That will be all I have to say about this. Thanks Dave for this forum to say a word or two.

That’s such a lovely video. Jolie is just gorgeous with her singing and music n’all! She’s been present in my musical appreciation and musical memory recall, but perhaps it’s time to incest some more and get these albums people are talking about.
Great stuff Jolie and great to find Pampelmoose. I feel a drawing project coming on.
