Matmos perform at KPSU

What to do with a day-off? If you’re a part of a touring band, do you explore an unfamiliar city by taking a stroll down its streets or indulge in a bit of a retail adventure? Not a priority to Matmos apparently as the four-piece used its day-off Tuesday in Portland [before its show at the Aladdin tonight] to perform a special in-studio at Portland State University’s student radio station KPSU. While the quartet typical spreads its electronics and accompanying accoutrements that include a plethora of drumsticks and various found objects across three banquet tables, a few gray plastic folding tables had to do. The atmosphere was very low-key as the group struck jokes before its 9pm on-air time performing for an hour in front of a small crowd of mostly non-students that could be counted on my fingers.
