gomma, munk and a whomadewho remix

Gomma Munk

I love Gomma and it appears that everyone in the free world does too. The German label is getting a lot of remix love for it’s latest release by Munk. I thought the Juan Maclean remix of “Live Fast Die Old” would be top of the barrel when it found its way into my inbox in April, but I was happily wrong. How so? Labelmates WhoMadeWho have just taken a stab at the track as has Ed Banger. The best German label meets the best French label? Head to explode.

I really love how much life as a theme works its way into Gomma releases. My first true exposure to the label’s roster beyond WhoMadeWho came by way of the song “Birth, School, Work, Death” by Headman/Manhead. Munk’s “Live Fast Die Old” is decidedly more upbeat than that rumination. The original “Live Fast Die Old” is funk in all its glory with spunky piano keys and Asia Argentino contributing vocals. [Listen to it here.] While WhoMadeWho toyed with the vocals slightly, its the music that the Danes have truly turned on its head, transforming the song into a subtle disco shaker on par with its own releases. Understated and totally intriguing.
