peter gabriel launches new content filtering site, the filter

The Filter

Here’s the email I got from the folks at The Filter:

1000 website bugs, 500 cups of tea and many sleepless nights later, The Filter is actually ready for the big unveiling. We had such a huge response to our private beta that we weren’t able to give everybody access to test the site in time, but we’d love you to log on now to see what we’ve been up to. It’s obviously still in beta, so we still want as much feedback as we can get - just go to the Support Forum to let us know what you think.

I’ve only played around with the site for 20 minutes or so. I like the interface alright but I really don’t know what role this site would fill in my web browsing that isn’t already filled by Last.FM, Netflix, and Youtube. From a music standpoint all of the recommendations I got were mainstream acts and older material so I’m not sure where their feeding their content from but it’s a little too behind the times for my liking. Most of the movies looked to be really old as well, I didn’t see many new releases being suggested.
