Indie Music Portland, hotel package and free CD
As readers of this blog may well know, Portland is the undisputed, independent music capitol of N. America…there I said it. Every night of the week you will find hundreds of bands performing in the hundreds of clubs around P-Town. It’s also well known that Portland is home to The Shins, Spoon, Modest Mouse, Stephen Malkmus, Blitzen Trapper, the members of Sleater-Kinney, Yacht, The Blow, Shaky Hands, The Decemberists, The Thermals and many others too numerous to list here.
What may be less well known is that the Moose has a sister site called Indie Music Portland, a music blog dedicated to Portland’s indie music scene. We run it on behalf of Travel Portland, the city’s private non-profit destination marketing organization, that champions all things Portland to the outside world. And those guys have come up with a way for you, non-Portlander, to get to stay in Portland with a cool hotel package that includes tickets to indie shows, a free CD compilation entitled Stumptown Rock, Vol.1, featuring local bands and, if desired, a free download of the album. The hotels are The Ace Hotel and The Jupiter, both fine places to hang your hat. If ever there were a time to visit PDX this might make it more worthwhile. @Ryan, they hail from there for sure, but like most of the big bands I mention, they moved to Portland…
