It seems like everyone’s becoming fanboys for Australia’s Midnight Juggernauts - well at least Justice and Cut Copy are (both having taken them on tour and talking them up in interviews) and it seems like in turn the Juggernauts are fanboys for French musician Sebastian Tellier (or at least when commissioned for a remix).

The lads from the land down under have had their way with Tellier’s track “Divine” from his latest studio offering Sexuality. I have to say my favorite ever remix of Tellier and favorite ever remix period has to be of his track “La Ritournelle” as re-imagined by Metronomy. Metronomy’s Joseph Mount wrote all new music for the song and rearranged the vocals a bit too, so it’s hard in my opinion for any other Tellier remixes to even hold a candle.

An interesting bit about the song “Divine” is actually about it’s original version as it’s going to be representing France in the Eurovision song contest on May 24th. If you’re not familiar with the European televised song contest that pits country against country, know that’s its the most camp over-the-top airing of the year and that the acts that participate are so bad they’re bad instead of so bad, they’re good. Seriously - you must Youtube prior telecasts! While watching, your ears may bleed from the tracks and your eyes may bleed from the technicolor costumes, gravity defying hair and atrocious makeup. But that’s what’s interesting, as Tellier isn’t gimmicky - he’s widely respected and doesn’t churn out disposable tunes, but instead well-orchestrated airy love songs. Plus he’s done a movie soundtrack with Mr. Oizo from EdBanger. It doesn’t get more relevant than that. So this shall be interesting. A “real” song going up against songs whose only goals are to out-do “the Ketchup song.” He’ll probably be instantly eliminated before even stepping foot on the stage.

Back to the Midnight Juggernauts though. How dare they play 1/2ALIVE in Vancouver B.C. prior to their set at Coachella and not come to Portland?! They’re now hitting up the rest of the States with Shy Child without giving the NW the attention it deserves. Petitions anyone?
