Cut Copy on Polaroids and remixing Stephen Malkmus’ Gardenia

Cut Copy Cut Copy Cut Copy

So what all did the fellows of Cut Copy get up to before the dinner-time shindig and headline show? Well, not record shopping, that’s for sure. The day before, the boys burned out on perusing aisles of albums at Aomeba Records in San Francisco where they did a DJ set and signing. When it came time for Portland they no longer had the energy to scour for Ariel Pink records, but spent time chillaxing inside their bus (instead of a Jupiter hotel room), doing an assortment of interviews and submitting to polaroids while discussing the flaws in the company’s plan to discontinue the film. I spent a little over an hour with them and in that time there was more media than just interviews - they got approached about appearing in a Stephen Malkmus video which they okayed (though I don’t know if their tour manager ended up coordinating it to happen given they were obviously pressed for time) and a remix of Stephen Malkmus’ future single “Gardenia.” Tim and Mitchell jumped at the chance, which prompted frontman Dan to say they could do it on their own. Only time will tell tell if a local-centric Cut Copy remix does indeed unfold from a chance meeting in the Doug Fir parking lot…Excitement!
