raconteurs upset the guardian by not allowing previews of new album

Post Radiohead’s unique way of releasing their album others followed; the most successful appears to be Trent Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails ‘Ghosts’ project. Part of these bands strategy has been to withhold all of the new music from the press, or anyone else for that matter, to ensure that a tight control is maintained for the release date and of course to ensure nothing is “leaked” to the internets prior to release. That strategy inevitably means that the life of a rock music critic gets complicated and boring all at once. As The Guardians David Bennun points out -
“Heard the new Raconteurs album? It’s unlikely. You may not even have known until now that there is a new Raconteurs album. That’s because the people who would normally make it their business to tell you didn’t know either, until this morning, when the band issued a statement about it. The salient points being: (1) It’s called Consolers of the Lonely; (2) It will be released on Tuesday March 25 on all formats, digital and physical, to all outlets, simultaneously; and (3) No advance music will go out to the media.”
Let’s see where all this goes….

I like the fact that they’re doing this. It’ll be interesting to see what happens. I saw a write up somewhere where the band said they wanted everyone to have access at the same time. They didn’t want the fans to be told what to think. I dug that idea.
