2001 released on blu ray

I didn’t realize until recently how much Stanley Kubrick influenced my childhood. I had nightmares about the Shining that I only recently realized were ignited by TV promos that were playing when i was 5 years old. Now, back to 2001….
As an 8 year old in the early 80’s we didn’t have a tv or vcr. One weekend my dad brought home a “monitor” from work and we rented a gigantic and heavy vcr. The very first recorded film I ever saw was 2001. Well, for those of you that know the film it was extremely difficult to digest as a child…..but that film stuck with me somehow. I later watched it on dvd and later watched the sequel 2010.
My point? The film is a timeless classic and the blu ray version brings all of the details to life. I never saw it in the theatre so its like watching a whole new film. The detail and design is inspirational to say the least.
Every great sci fi film since has borrowed from this film. I would love to hear an argument for a better definition of the sci fi genre. I don’t think its out there.
