I’m not sure why I received this press release so late although I do know I was in Turkey playing a festival at the time so maybe I missed it. So Radiohead seem to have opted for the non-environmentally friendly plastic disc package; and so soon after releasing In Rainbows as an online only album. A rather odd strategy I think, I need time to ponder this news.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 12, 2007 - RADIOHEAD’S IN RAINBOWS CONFIRMED FOR JANUARY 1 RELEASE

On January 1, 2008, TBD Records/ATO Records Group will release in North America the physical version of Radiohead’s In Rainbows. Released in download format earlier this year, In Rainbows has already received tremendous acclaim in the press. British music magazine Q wrote “In Rainbows is a brilliant work” while Rolling Stone said the album “delivers an emotional punch that proves all other rock stars owe us an apology.” New York magazine raved, “Radiohead has made their best music in years, maybe ever.” TBD/ATO are currently focusing on both “Bodysnatchers” and “Jigsaw Falling Into Place” as the North American radio singles. Produced by Nigel Godrich, In Rainbows is the band’s seventh studio album and the follow-up to 2003’s RIAA certified Platinum Hail to the Thief. More information about the album release and the band’s touring plans to follow.

Hmm…this reminds me of those webcam videos I used to do back in the day while drunk and otherwise in my room/office…I know these guys don’t have a major label budget, but…really? :)

Kidding aside, I became much more interested after trying to figure out what the apparatus used to film the video looked like. The video definitely keeps with the DIY message. It’ll be nice to see more, if they choose to film any others.

Well I think it’s an awesome video - simple and effective. As far as their release strategy, the downloads were at such a low bitrate anyway that it will be nice to finally hear the songs at a home stereo-friendly resolution.
