September 16th, 2007 by joshk

Kyle, from the band Climber, offered up the following track from their upcoming cd release to test audio quality. Lets get ready to rumble!!!Which of the following is the clear winner for digital audio quality? Lets hear from the audiophiles :) (the m4a files are basically the itunes AAC files)
“Stop that holy dance”: (right click and save to your desktop)
16 bit 44.1 khz mp3
16 bit 44.1 khz m4a
24 bit 48 khz mp3
24 bit 48 khz m4a
Looking forward to your comparisons,
Josh k
ps file size is around 7 megs for each.

so far so good, just waiting for the 24 bit mp4 link to be fixed. I noticed a significant improvement in the range of sound with the 24 bit mp3 so I would definitely recommend that enhancement.

well for some reason it seems as if the 24 bit Mp4 is the best. sounded like I could hear some more distinct qualities to the recording, panning. but I’m no audiophile and I was listening to the tracks through dave’s daugthers’ singular ear bud. hehe. actually it was at work and on a pair of panasonic head phones that you would get free with a CD player.

what’s the bitrate on those files? or is that part of the test?

you mean the k/s rate? if so they are all at 320k/s.
