the dragons and captain and tenille

One of my favorite cuts to play when I’m dropping a downtempo DJ set is ‘Fly Like An Eagle’ by The Steve Miller Band. There’s something about that smooth Californian funk that encompasses late 60’s psychedelic, soul and rock in a cool way - even if it is played by white guys. Anyway I came across The Dragons who operated in the same time and place as Miller and who released ‘Blue Forces Intelligence’ [smoke enough pot and you too can name your album like that.] It turns out that one third of this trio of Dragon brothers later went on to become famous as the ‘Captain’ from 70s chart-toppers Captain and Tenille. [You must click and see that site btw]. Well never mind, meanwhile a re-released LP and CD is available from Ninja Tunes. Get it here.

nice track. “fly like an eagle” is boss. one of my childhood memories is listening to that record on the akai reel-to-reel, and my folks yelling at the FM ‘cuz nobody on-air played the crossfade into “wild mountain honey.” they liked that cut.
