Portland movie director Gus Van Sant was arrested Thursday for driving under the influence of intoxicants, police reported today. Van Sant, 54, an Oscar-nominated director whose film credits include “Elephant,” “Finding Forrester” and “Good Will Hunting,” was arrested early Thursday morning after a police officer saw him accelerate rapidly after stopping at a traffic signal. The incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. at West Burnside Street and Southwest Sixth Avenue, said Sgt. Brian Schmautz, spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau.
