bmg sony records lurking in virtual worlds

second life portland music

Online virtual worlds were once a place for geeks, gamers and nerds to find safe haven away from the real world, but according to the New York Times, “the budding fake world [second life] is not only attracting a lot more people, it is taking on a real world twist: big business interests are intruding on digital utopia. The Second Life online service is fast becoming a three-dimensional test bed for corporate marketers, including Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Sun Microsystems, Nissan, Adidas/Reebok, Toyota and Starwood Hotels.” Apparently Ben Folds will be playing a virtual concert within Second Life. Sounds like nirvana just came to an end.
