bob dylan on the future of the album

Meanwhile, never mind Beck, here’s what Bob had to say in a Rolling Stone interview - “I don’t know anybody who’s made a record that sounds decent in the past 20 years,” the 65 year old rocker is quoted as saying. “You listen to these modern records, they’re atrocious, they have sound all over them. There’s no definition of nothing, no vocal, no nothing, just like . . . static,â€? he added. Dylan’s new album Modern Times is out next week, it won’t have “sound all over it” I guess.

I think I agree with him to an extent. Does anyone else find a lot of new music these days over-produced? I do a lot of sampling and I just can’t get over how good some 60s production sounds. So much space, so real and direct. It’s perfect for post-processing into something new coz it doesn’t sound processed already. A bit of generalization but I think I can understand how his ears would judge something to have “sound all over itâ€?.
