Back on the road. It’s interesting to me that one week ago I was flying back from the UK with very little in the way of carry-on luggage, even struggling to hold on to my contact lens case that a security guard wanted to take off me, and yet on this week’s trip everyone was happily loading up the overhead bins with as much luggage as possible. As I write this George W Bush is giving a speech to veterans in Salt Lake City live on TV. He’s rattling on about ‘victory’ in Iraq and is still insisting that the war there is a war against terrorism. It’s a hollow argument. Meanwhile everyone who sets foot on an airliner is a very brave soul.
