pickathon roots music festival goes sustainable

Festival partners Allen, Schoenborn, Failing
The Moose is a partner in the Pickathon Roots Music Festival and we are proud to announce that this year, the 8th annual event, we are making major efforts to reduce the environmental consequences that happen when you bring a large number of people together for two days. Here’s some examples of how we are doing it - McMenamins is crafting “green beerâ€? for the event by purchasing offset wind credits to counter the electricity used in brewing. B & J Garbage is providing a portable composting station as well as recycling and waste containers. Food vendors like Sambazon which utilizes fair trade practices with Amazonian collectives to harvest organic acai, an antioxidant-rich Brazilian berry, that’s packaged in biodegradable containers were chosen because of their leanings. And like many larger events, Pickathon is using renewable energy credits donated by PacifiCorp’s Blue Sky program to counteract the less environmentally friendly energy it consumes. So our audience can not only enjoy amazing music from the likes of Iris Dement, Greg Brown, Kelly Joe Phelps, The Avett Brothers and The Wailin’ Jennys, they can rest assured that we are doing our utmost to protect the land that we are producing the show on.
