Mother’s Lisa Schroeder and Rob Sample

My what a busy night…three events, so little time. We kicked things off as a guest of Mother’s Lisa Schroeder, and her partner Rob Sample, at the grand opening of the Velvet Lounge & Cafe. Fine food, cocktails, wine and beer all round and a packed house to boot. They’ve done an amazing job of expanding the whole restaurant from it’s corner nook on 2nd Ave by taking over extra space at 212 SW Stark St and adding a full bar and extra seating.

Next it was on to the Nike Jordan brand’s party which was thrown to welcome the new incoming Editor-in-Chief of Giant magazine, Smokey Fontaine. I am not quite sure of the connection between Giant and the Nike Jordan brand but the Syrah was flowing and it wasn’t the cheap stuff either. The party was held at a new art gallery/club called Pi-rem lounge at 433 NW 4th between Flanders & Glisan. Nice space, worth a look right now as it still smells new if you know what I mean. DJ Shines threw down the beats, we had our picture taken and then it was on to the Towne Lounge.

Imaad Wasif @ Towne Lounge

Portland, you missed a doozy. Imaad Wasif, who is perhaps better known as the extra guitarist in the Yeah Yeah Yeahs right now, played an extraordinary set with just a drummer and a bass player in tow. Switching effortlessly between acoustic and electric guitar, Wasif, who is rail-thin and looks as fragile as a stick insect, managed to hold the audience in thrall as he led the band through extended and louder versions of songs from his recent album. You can hear a track from the album here. Next time he hits town you should check him out.

Ok, that’s it unless you want to see some more pictures. If so click below.
