I know, this is not the Strokes, this be The Roots
Strokes play Portland. Large, admiring crowd. Loud rock. Bright lights. Pretty good; Casablanca sounds more and more like the Iggy/Lou Reed mix that he ought to be. They’ll never play bigger rooms than the Roseland, but that’s probably ok. Meanwhile, Portland being the large little city that it is, I had dinner with The Roots at Andina, and got an invite to play with them tonight at a little party being thrown by a certain ad company in the Pearl. Drinks back stage, after the Strokes left the building, with Courtney from the Dandy’s and Marty from the Shins. And then late night cocktails with the UK’s very own Queens of Noize who just happen to be living with me for a week and also DJ’ing the aforementioned party. Strokes, a bit dull, Portland, not boring.
