LA Times music critic takes a buyout

Robert Hilburn (r) takes his goodbye gift
In a sign that blogs continue to change the face of the dead tree media companies, Robert Hilburn, arguably the Los Angeles Times’ best-known critic, has taken a buy out and will leave the paper although he will continue to contribute pieces to Calendar (reportedly the lone buyout taker invited to stick around like that.) Hilburn says, “It’s the best of both worlds - the chance to write books and still be part of the Times family. I think the Times’ increasing emphasis on the arts is going to make this an exciting place over the next few years.” Er, yeah, right.
