The Artistery 8th Anniversary feat. Jonny X & The Groadies, White Fang, Eternal Tapestry – Friday @ Artistery (4315 SE Division)

This all-ages venue/artist’s enclave has been the home to some of the city’s most outrageous and inspiring shows during the eight years it has been a part of the cultural landscape. They have much to celebrate and are doing it in style with a free seven band concert featuring the psych rock of Eternal Tapestry and Purple Rhinestone Eagle and the fuzzy urgency of White Fang.

World Party – Sunday @ Doug Fir Lounge (801 E Burnside)

The last time Karl Wallinger (pictured) and co. had a hold on the airwaves of college radio and alternative rock stations was back in 1990 with the release of their still brilliant album Goodbye Jumbo. The years have not been terribly kind to Wallinger, who has had a series of medical ailments to contend with, including an aneurysm that rendered him unable to speak. In 2006, Wallinger finally put himself back on stage, with a triumphal showcase at SXSW and has been gearing up for the release of a new album of global-inspired pop and soul-stirring rock.

Mangled Bohemians – Thursday @ East End (203 SE Grand)

The long stretched out chords and unholy noises that this Portland duo wrenches out of their instruments are not for the faint of spirit. But listen close as they make way for gorgeous stretches of lightness and gravity-defying beauty. It is music best suited to ill-lit rooms, humid studio apartments in the heat of summer or late night drives on long stretches of highway.
