The recording industry's attempt to hold onto control of the evolving music business model reminds me of the newspaper industry's similar attempts to retain their previous stranglehold on news. The "pirates" in the news biz are search engines, aggregators and bloggers, according to the execs, conveniently leaving out the amount of Web traffic they derive from the swashbuckling sector. Both industries also forget that they've plundered from consumers for a long time, reaping huge profit margins in the name of free enterprise, aka, whatever the market will bear. Well, the market is done bearing down to subsidize these corporate monkeys. The Web is allowing us to steer the ship now. Yar!
