Marshall Kirkpatrick was able to interview Neil Young at the JavaOne conference in San Francisco where Young announced that his whole life’s work will be made available in a dynamically updating collection delivered on Blu-ray disk.
When asked about where he thinks the music business might be going, Young diplomatically replied – “The recording business is going somewhere but I don’t care about that, I try to remove myself from the business part. The artistic part of me tries to. The world will work it out.”

I remember talking to Bun E. Carlos about this issue, and he laughed derisively at Neil Young and the “holes in digital” concept…but then again, Cheap Trick did record with Steve Albini, the most aggro anti-digital guy in practically the whole universe (at least in the past-dunno how he does it now)…me, I think whatever gets you through the night is great as long as you aren’t using Zoom guitar effects presets. Cuz THOSE sound like anus.
