Ok, so a few days ago Stereogum kicked out a new cut, Zero, from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs upcoming new release It’s Blitz! [read - some tracks gathered together on a round shiny disc] and it wasn’t that good. Now follows another cut, Heads Will Roll, and…. it’s not that good. What gives? Where’s the rip, rattle and roll of Fever To Tell? I’ll tell you – nowhere.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll Removed by request of copyright holder.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero This one’s ok for posting they say.
Here’s their web site, it wouldn’t load for me.

weeeelllll, i don’t know. if we had judged Show Your Bones simply by thje first-out-of-the-gate Gold Lion, it might have seemed that there would be no rip, rattle & roll to be expected on that album either. turned out that wasn’t the case, and in the context of the other songs, Gold Lion was actually quite a fine fit amidst some rattling and rolling..
February 23rd, 2009 at 1:03 amnow, i think Zero is a cool diversion from previous YYYs feels, and i don’t think i’ll jump to judgement…
C’mon, they’re so overrated to begin with.

February 23rd, 2009 at 9:06 amHaving heard Zero and now Heads Will Roll I’m less certain that there’s better to come. I mean you usually lead with your best songs to drive the hype, no?
I have to agree that the single lacks any of the soul I’d expect from the YYYs… It’s about as polished as their image these days.

February 23rd, 2009 at 11:19 amgoing to keep my fingers crossed that the rest of the album is more rocking… I don’t hate these songs but they’re not doing all that much for me.
February 23rd, 2009 at 11:30 amGold Lion was a good song though even though it didn’t have that rip, rattle and roll.
None of these new songs are actually that good though. Sure the production is nice but Nick Zinners synth lines are middle of the road and Karen Os vocal hooks are devoid of any natural energy or emotion. I’m not sure what people are getting that excited about.
February 23rd, 2009 at 3:36 pmTrue, they are NOT that good. Her voice got on my nerves from jump street. Next!
February 24th, 2009 at 12:59 amI think they were already getting slick with Maps, but Maps was a great song. This isnt THAT bad, and it’s a hell of alot more interesting then Show Your Bones (minus Gold Lion).
