Pitchfork has ponied up its Guide to Upcoming Releases: Winter 2009. A comprehensive list of new albums coming up through May. As they say, release schedules are somewhat malleable these days because of digital pre-releases etc.
“Compiling such a list isn’t easy in this day and age, with different release dates for digital and physical versions of albums, as well as different release dates for different countries. So we tried to stick with North American physical release dates as much as possible, with exceptions as noted.”
Taking a look at the list reminds me that record labels aren’t slowing down on releasing CDs any time soon. There is a distinction in the list between an album being a CD or a vinyl record release although vinyl comes up short if you ask me. The ones I’m looking forward to are:
Alela Diane: To Be Still [Rough Trade]
Animal Collective: Merriweather Post Pavilion [Domino] [vinyl release]
Squarepusher: Numbers Lucent EP [Warp] [UK release]
TV on the Radio: “Dancing Choose” 12″ [4AD] [UK release]
A.C. Newman: Get Guilty [Matador]
Andrew Bird: Noble Beast [Fat Possum]
Bon Iver: Blood Bank EP [Jagjaguwar]
Diplo and Blaqstarr: Get Off / Serato Vinyl [Mad Decent] [vinyl release]
Royal Trux: Royal Trux [Drag City] [vinyl reissue]
Royal Trux: Twin Infinitives [Drag City] [vinyl reissue]
Telefon Tel Aviv: Immolate Yourself [BPitch Control]
Yeasayer: All Hour Cymbals [We Are Free] [vinyl release]
Lily Allen: It’s Not Me, It’s You [Regal] [UK release]
The Murder City Devils: The Murder City Devils [Sub Pop] [vinyl reissue]
Neko Case: Middle Cyclone [Anti-]
And not U2: No Line on the Horizon [Interscope]
Here’s a taste of new Lily Allen for 2009:
