Lykke Li @ NTBR Part 4 – “Hustlin’” from Drew Innis on Vimeo.
If you haven’t taken Lykke Li’s perpetual set-closing cover of A Tribe Called Quest’s “Can I Kick It” as a hint, the Swedish songstress really loves her hip-hop and rap. Further evidence? Her performing a stripped down version of Rick Ross’ “Hustlin’” with nothing but a mic and Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John on acoustic guitar at an intimate Los Angeles affair. The talky crowd is a bit tepid when it comes to carrying out the chorus and her call-and-response requests, but the clip isn’t about them. It’s more about the contrast between the blond sprite with her soft, coo-ing voice and the profanity and thugged out lyrics she’s spitting out. She throws in some hip-hop posturing for good measure too that’s equally as endearing as it is strange.
