After Mickey Moonlight’s mix for Ed Banger’s iTunes podcast channel dropped this summer I kinda swore off of mixes. It was just so good and all too easy to put on repeat that my ears had no desire to listen to any of the latest mixes on the scene. Because of this, I missed the excellent disco mix “Disco Night at the Big Horse” by Los Angeles duo Guns N Bombs on Discobelle, but I am happy to announce my ears are no longer incognizant.
I caught a house and techno-centric Guns N Bombs DJ set at 2007’s installment of Decibel Fest in Seattle, but listening to “Disco Night at the Big Horse” has convinced me that the disco genre should be the pair’s exclusive territory from now on. To me it can be so much more interesting to listen to what paved the way for the dance bands of today by means of nice digestible mix that only packs hot tracks. There’s nary a filler over the span of the tracklist. The highlight? Musique’s “In the Bush” popping up mid-way through.
