i suppose it’s all about the tool, its function and what it replaces…..i just got my utterly fantastic G10 as a replacement for my Canon G1….yup a 3.2 mp G1 that I’ve traveled with since around 2001ish. i bet you can’t imagine how much i love this thing…hopefully i can get as much use out of it as i have my G1………anyone want to buy a pristine Canon G1 with all original packaging, book setc? maybe a museum curator out there??

I have just purchased a G10, although i’ve never used the G9.

So far I’ve been impressed with the construction, image quality, ease of use and the RAW image implementation on the G10. I don’t know if it is better than the Lumix LX3, I’m still unsure about that, but, honestly, I would likely never use the video function, as I prefer to use a dedicated HD video camera for those situations.

I won’t argue with specific points on the posted “review”, as it is just a soap-box opinion… not useful for someone looking for solid advice on the camera. It seems to me that Graves is expecting to bring a Swiss Army knife to a sword fight. I do sympathize with the frustration of purchasing a new model and experiencing buyer’s remorse in which the previous model had features that is preferred/liked. But these are compact “street” cameras we are talking about here, not an all-in-one pro-level HD video/still solution. Manage your expectations, folks, or wait and research before you buy.

Oh, and instead of smashing a $500 digital camera to be funny, smug, and/or clever, why not donate it to a school or low-income family who would love to have a camera like this, but can’t afford it?

Josh–agreed, agreed. Warhol got amazing results with a POLAROID, so I think it’s good to remember that the eye is really the only lens that matters.

I’m a tech whore. (writing this on a iPhone v2)
I think we need to chill out a bit with keeping up with high end digital cameras. I have a nikon d200 and have no intentions of upgrading just because the 200 turned into a 700. technology is awesome but it doesn’t create ideas. a good idea will trump a number every time in terms of real results. I’d say keep the focus on a good idea over upgrading your equipment.

I’m with Josh–we should all know that 1st gen versions of EVERYTHING are woefully jacked. That said, I personally believe video on SLRs is the equivalent of bringing a knife to a gunfight. Video cameras that do stills give craptacular stills and vice versa. But then again, those who want stills from video and vice versa are most often not picky or trying to get pro quality from those secondary features, so I should quit yammering about that and move on.

Me, I’m into the Nikon D700 myself…that’s my next purchase.
