A common complaint I hear often from local musicians is that local FM radio stations do not dedicate enough time to their music. Well, in response I have at least a small antidote – my twice-weekly slot on the New Music Hour on Portland’s 94.7FM where I try and play as much local music as I can squeeze in.
In the six shows I’ve been on since Aug 28th I’m pleased to say that I have been able to play music from 13 local bands. Now that might not sound like a lot but it is arguably more than you might expect to hear in any other 6 hour stretch of local radio across all the Portland stations. I hope to increase the percentage as we keep rolling out the New Music Hour. And if you the listener, or you the bands out there, want to hear more then simply tune in to the station on Tuesday and Thursday nights between 8PM and 9PM and pick up the phone and call in to tell us what you’d like to hear. You can also leave comments here with your list of preferred bands that you’d like to hear. I promise I will respond.
