Nilina Mason-Campbell posts: Just where will Metronomy take a song is always the number one question I have on my mind anytime I hear that Joseph Mount has slipped another remix under his belt. A google search alerted me to the fact that both he and Fred Falke would be taking on separate remixes of Swedish pixie Lykke Li’s tune “I’m Good I’m Gone.” I tracked down Falke’s first which has a woozy vibe going on, on par with his recent remixes for Hot Chip and the Whitest Boy Alive. Where a lot of his remixes sound like rollercoaster rides, full of energy and sunshine synths, Falke’s “I’m Good I’m Gone” remix would be good to soundtrack the walk between rides at the amusement park.
It took a couple more weeks for Metronomy’s edit surface. The track starts out with a ringing phone ala Blondie’s cover of “Hanging on the Telephone.” Metronomy then takes the ring and runs with it by weaving it in throughout the entire song. Its ever-present placement serves as an additional beat of sorts. Mr. Mount can be a bit evasive when it comes to where his ideas come from since his remixes are often complete remakes with him writing all new music for the vocals and inserting extra lyrics. The inspiration for this one seems pretty obvious though as one of the song’s prominent lyrics is “You’ll be callin’, but I won’t be at the phone.” True to form, Metronomy didn’t phone this remix in – he took it in a whole new direction that suits the song in an oh-so related way.

Agreed on everything you said about Metronomy, I would venture to say he is the best remixer in the game
