So the purple one is still on a rampant takedown of all of his unauthorized videos from YouTube according to Pitchfork – apparently Thom Yorke thinks he and the band, and only he and the band have the right to block a cover of their own song. Fair enough. If you haven’t heard the cover it is pretty mighty, check it below.
Prince – Creep (Radiohead cover)

I strongly believe that Prince can make anything and everything better.
May 31st, 2008 at 8:41 pmyes indeed, everything he touches is always amazing..
May 31st, 2008 at 8:44 pmWell, as Radiohead wrote the song and (technically speaking) own the legal & interlectual rights to it I guess Prince has to obey their wishes or Radiohead could just cover all his stuff and post it on youtube, itunes, etc.
Then if Prince bitches about Radiohead posting his stuff and demands they take it down, turn ’round and be like “Well now, you didn’t respect our wishes as the origional artists that recorded ‘Creep’. So screw you, we got legal pressident and a pretty damn good lawyer so bring it!”
Word of advice to Prince, you get what you give. Show Radiohead some freaking respect or no b@$t@rds gonna respect you, Dude!
March 6th, 2009 at 9:09 amPrince sucks…he needs to just give up
March 6th, 2009 at 10:45 amThat cover is terrible.
March 6th, 2009 at 11:29 amthis cover blows
March 6th, 2009 at 11:52 amHaha that is pretty rich, “take down the video of my covering another band’s music, it violates my intellectual property rights” hmm…
March 6th, 2009 at 12:27 pmI think this comes down to whatever deal Prince made with Radiohead when he covered their song. It works something like this: Radiohead owns the rights to the song. Prince purchases some (certainly not all) the rights to the song including the rights to perform and record it. If that is the case, the “cover” that prince has made was made legally and the new work, the “cover” belongs to Prince. The new song is legally and artistically Prince’s song. Therefore, Radiohead has no claim to what he does with it unless (and I highly doubt it) such restrictions were covered in their original contract when the rights were bought from Radiohead.
However, if Prince recorded the song without a contract with Radiohead then the Prince version of the song belongs to Radiohead who could do whatever they like with it. This is extremely unlikely. Prince hasn’t gotten to where he is without a shit-ton of lawyers and this isn’t the kind of thing an entertainment lawyer overlooks.
I’m sorry y’all hate Prince, but he is correct in this situation.
March 6th, 2009 at 2:35 pmAre you kidding? This cover is putrid, and overly drawn out. I nearly nodded off before he started singing. Dreadful. 9 mins of this! No way pal.
March 6th, 2009 at 5:41 pmI didn’t enjoy this cover at all. It was way to drawn out and misses a real jump up at the dead notes before the chorus. I have no idea what the agreement between Radiohead and Prince is but I have noticed a lot of musicians now a days sharing their songs with the understanding that the song must be shared when shared. I am guessing that Radiohead is following that field of thought. Point being, a likely contract would allow Prince to cover the song but he in turn has to share his cover with others.
March 6th, 2009 at 8:06 pmHorrible cover, I’m glad it was taken down.
March 6th, 2009 at 9:14 pmThat is THE WORST cover I’ve ever heard.
March 8th, 2009 at 11:47 am@Michael : there is most probably no agreement directly between Radiohead and Prince. The PRS would be informed of Prince’s performance of a Radiohead song, and would demand royalties for it. Those royalties would then be passed on to Radiohead.
March 8th, 2009 at 12:46 pmPrince never fails to disappoint.
March 9th, 2009 at 11:08 pmWow that was terrible
March 10th, 2009 at 6:28 pmOh dear me what a travesty. I havent heard a cover as bad as this for a long time.
March 10th, 2009 at 11:33 pmWORST.COVER.EVER.
March 11th, 2009 at 12:08 amHe destroyed a great song. I want to slap him.
March 12th, 2009 at 6:24 ammy ears, what have you done to my beautiful ears?! i suppose you can’t go that many decades without jumping the shark
March 12th, 2009 at 8:53 amdreck. incompetent. pointless.
March 12th, 2009 at 5:15 pmThe most overrated artist of all time ruining a song written by the most underrated artists of all time.
I wish it was the sixties, I wish I could be happy. I wish. I wish.
March 13th, 2009 at 9:01 amEveryone knows Radiohead wrote creep. It is not even one of their better songs. Let Prince do what he wants with it. Gnarls Barkley covered one of their songs as well. For that matter, who hasn’t? Do we all need the book thrown at us because Thom Yorke wants to keep his disproportionately large head for as long as possible?
March 13th, 2009 at 8:45 pmI’m 1:30 in.. does he ever start singing?
AHH, now he is, and it’s TERRIBLE.
March 14th, 2009 at 12:41 pmShaun is exactly right, perfectly articulated. I liked the cover, but I suppose I’m biased I like Prince.
March 17th, 2009 at 6:47 pmI don’t blame them. If I were an actual artist, and some brain-dead, pseudo-intellectual entertainer covered my song (consequentially removing it’s previously intended meaning), I would want it taken down as well.
Stretching Creep out to like 7 minutes? Have some respect for the source material, please, especially when the band is MUCH more talented and thoughtful than yourself.
March 19th, 2009 at 12:25 pmEven if Prince had the rights to cover this song,
April 29th, 2009 at 9:08 amRadiohead has the rights to be absolutely disgusted and humiliated
by how absolutely rancid this cover is.
It’s a decent cover, not bad, not amazing. Certainly it has it’s highs and lows. I feel like most of the negative comments are stemming out of the above people getting angry that they stumbled on this while they were busy reading Pitchfork and masturbating to Kid A for the tenth time today. And seriously, Radiohead underrated? Am I wrong in saying they’ve set records for how fast their concerts have sold out? Sorry your favorite band isn’t underground anymore, accept it with grace, please.
