Vancouver is the shit and has been for years now, but as you point out they are different, I would say it's just more cosmopolitan. But I wouldn't call Portland's electronic scene infantile by comparison. Read renegademag's story about Lo Dub's Records, they've got a whole dubstep night, probably the biggest on the west coast. International producers like Bryan Zentz live here and have weeklies. But MY!GAY!HUSBAND! is awesome and when he played backspace NOBODY showed up.
