Music discovery is what the Moose lives for…… An email came in yesterday morning from Matteo Grilli aka Grillo an Italian musician who says when he was younger he had “a passion for making mixtapes on his boombox out of old tapes he found around the house.” I got in touch with him after listening to his music on his MySpace page. He quickly airlifted the whole ‘Dirty Pretty Beats’ album to me over the interweb and I have to say it’s pretty damn fine. As he outlines in his own description he “crafts his own blend of music consisting of crusty beats, vintage samples, 8-bit bleeps and field recordings.” The more I listen to the album the more it grows on me and there are plenty of cuts here for me to play out when I’m DJ’ing. It’s an up – I give it 8 out of 10…. you can buy the album here.
