I just spent about 7 hours in the company of Cut Copy who hit up Portland on their current tour with a gig at the Doug Fir. Touring can be a test for sure so I decided to lighten things up for the boys by inviting them to my house for a party with about 50 of my friends. Food, wine, beer, friends what’s not to like? Here’s a video of the party. So we successfully wrangled all that and then went back down to the gig to catch openers Mobius Band and Black Kids – video coming soon. Ran into Danny from Menomena and DJ Izm too.
I’ve never seen the Doug Fir as full as it was last night and when Cut Copy took the stage the crowd’s happy feet took over as you can see in the video – and that was just the first song. By the time the band reached their encore the place was a seething, sweaty mass of gleeful young things throwing themselves around. Best show I’ve been to in a long while. I was lucky enough to be on stage so the video turned out pretty good. If they come to your town you must see them, they’re amazing live…
That sound is unreal. Its like you were plugged right into the soundboard!

August 5th, 2008 at 9:48 pm[...] Here’s the story behind the video that was taken down. The Australian band, Cut Copy, and their manager Neil are friends of mine. I invited the band to dinner at my house in Portland prior to their show in town. We had a good time, we shot video, I edited it and posted it. Seemed harmless enough but clearly not. I have filed a counter claim with Facebook so we’ll see how that goes. And someone should let Universal Music know that I fed Cut Copy dinner that night too….I’ll send Universal a bill… Watch another video from the same night here. [...]
