Ok, so the headline’s a bit pompous but that doesn’t make the statement any less true. Clearly mp3 blogs have been the go-to places for new music and have become the new A&R (talent scouting) departments for record labels and web surfers alike. Where once we trusted music critics, editors and reviewers to align us with music we may or may not like, or maybe by chance we’d hear something good on radio and searched it out, now we, the music fans, are way ahead of the curve; those trusted sources, especially in print, have to play catch up. At the click of a mouse via the web app Peel anyone can pull in new music from the blogosphere; just a few of my current favorites are 3Hive, Stereogum, Large Hearted Boy, So Much Silence, You Ain’t No Picasso and Fluxblog. And of course who’d manage without KEXP’s blog.
At the Moose we actively search out the good stuff for you, essentially filtering it for your consumption based on our tastes. You may or may not share our taste in music but we believe what is worth posting is the good stuff. We also listen to tons of submissions from the online promo companies and those record labels who, rather quaintly these days, send us CDs. Just this Saturday via an email from a reader, I discovered Your 33 Black Angels. Today Jesper Henriksen sent me an email about his band, Regulate and Fold and recently we’ve turned you on to Division Kent, Eskimo & Sons, Black Kids and Comanechi.
So, music fans, promo companies, record labels and bands – keep it coming – here’s our contact info to make it easy for y’all.
