post #1000, some sort of milestone marker…

I’ve been banging away at this blog since the first official test post back in December 2005. Consequently, 17 months later, there are currently 1000 posts and 1,468 comments contained within 32 categories and 934 blogs link to us. I pretty much wrote them all but these days the blog has some amazing contributors – Kiala Kazebee, Jenny Tatone and Josh Kneedler whom I thank for bringing a much needed sensibility and different world-view. I would also like to thank regular commentators, Bryan V and Joe Wallace for adding to the mix of thinking and general debasing that goes on around here, and from the UK my childhood friend and neighbour, Frazer Whitehead, thanks for pitching in.

In the spirit of radical transparency which I fully embrace I’d like to give you some numbers and stats that show our progress and even maybe make you realize why you keep reading – In August 2007 we had 55,701 unique visitors, 160,404 page views, 361,961 file downloads and 457,528 hits. For comparison here’s the same numbers for Oct 2006 – 21,334 | 57,216 | 116,886 | 157,997
If you are a geek you’ll understand those numbers, if you’re not just know that you are in good company every time you visit the Moose. I love the fact that we’ve been able to survive without having paid advertising or those Google ads all over the site. I love that we have become a ‘trusted source’ for our insights into music and what makes it good; the MP3 box in the top right hopefully sums up our musical tastes. If we feature a band it’s because we think they deserve exposure without too much comment – you decide.

Portland, Oregon features large in our posts because we are blessed to live in what should truly be called the Indie Music Capital of North America. Beyond music though this city is an epicentre of amazing talent and I am extremely lucky to be working with Nemo Design without whose support I may not have been able to continue rolling out the Moose posts, so big ups to Trevor Graves for sharing the vision and allowing me to keep flying.

And of course there is the ‘behind the scenes crew’ who help keep the doors open, technologically speaking – Josh Kneedler, Ezra Hockman, Ned Failing and Justin Kistner, take a bow, along with newbie Dane Hesseldahl. I’d also like to thank Matt Wright who was instrumental in getting this blog going back in the day, he just didn’t know it. If I’ve left anyone out let me know and you will be given the love. Here’s to many more years of the Moose, Dave Allen.
