Hands down. Or hands up. Hands across America.
Heather (on the left) is the bartender at Silk, which is in the Pearl District.
I know, I know. Pearl District, right? You don’t have to say it. I know all about your awesome bars in the messier cooler neighborhoods. I KNOW THIS INTERNET so please don’t burn me in effigy because you think your bartender at The Slammer or Rontom’s is the best in Portland. I’m sure she is. But mine is better.
Mine likes Michael Ian Black and her boyfriend has a Star Wars sleeping bag and I’m pretty sure she’s a seventh level ranger with a plus four dagger of wicked awesome. Also, she laughs at my jokes which, as we know, indicates an IQ of 185 or higher.
(Silk also has the best server in Portland. Her name is Jessica and she shares with us a profound disdain for couples who make out inappropriately in public places. Especially public places that begin with an “S” and end with an”ilk”)
And the food is delicious – Pho! Crispy rolls! – but the booze is delicious-er.

what makes her cocktails special, and what is her specialty drink?
September 11th, 2007 at 10:30 amOh, you mean you want facts? What do you think I am – a journalist?
I like the Traffic Jam which is like a basil ginger salad, dipped in ginger vodka. She makes great drinks but its her personality that makes her special. Its just nice to not feel like Im doing someone a favor by giving them money to make me a drink.
September 11th, 2007 at 10:34 amI need to visit Silk..
September 11th, 2007 at 12:47 pmheather was the first or second bartender i ever bought beer from, back in the eugene days. i bought hard ciders from her, actually, and made fun of myself before she had a chance to. this was when i turned 21. i had a huge crush on her, making her also the second bartender i ever had a crush on (libby jean was first). she’s a fantastic gal. and her boyfriend is in a pretty legendary punk band. so anywhoo…yeah, feels good to get that off my chest. haha.
September 11th, 2007 at 7:10 pm@ Casey…really? I knew I had good taste in bartenders! This is funny because my friend Pip saw the picture and well, this is what he said, “HEY! That’s Heather from Eugene! There are two people I know in this picture! HEY!” I’m not sure if he had a crush on her or not (probably yes?) but …here comes the cliche….small world, right?
September 12th, 2007 at 8:14 amkiala you look wasted in that photo…I am assuming that is you on the right?
September 12th, 2007 at 8:20 amYep. That’s me. But I’d only had two drinks…okay maybe three. I had to look down because my eyes are this alien color of green which turn into lasers when my picture is taken. I did have more drinks later at the Eskimo and Sons show though….because I’m a LADY.
September 12th, 2007 at 8:25 amlaser eyes…thats crazy…my eyes have little atomic bomb mushroom clouds in them all the time…its rather akward, especially in the post cold-war years.
