Let’s get this out of the way first: Bring Back The Guns sound an awful lot like The Pixies; specifically, Trompe Le Monde. But while the Houston quartet borrows heavily from the noisy and complex guitar styles of The Pixies, they have enough idiosyncratic energy to stand on their own. Combining post-punk aggression with weightless James Mercer-like lead vocals, Bring Back The Guns is a band that promises to come into its own skin while shedding the legends that shadow it. We’ll find out for sure when they release their debut album Dry Futures on Oct. 2 via indie label Feow Records. Bring Back The Guns are the kind of band that, in today’s overwhelming indie rock scene, could easily slip by unnoticed. But offering an interesting and intense mix of post-punk and off-kilter pop, these guys definitely deserve more attention.
