The Hilton Tuscon El Conquistador resort. Life is tough.
Larry Crane of Portland’s Jackpot Studios’ fame and Craig Schumacher persuaded me to come down to Tucson, Arizona for this year’s Tape Op conference. One shouldn’t really need to be persuaded to come to a lovely city like Tuscon, it’s just that I can’t abide temperatures above 80º – it’s that English thing. The conference rallies up to a thousand producers and engineers who gather to talk about recent technological developments and mostly to talk about good old fashioned analog tape recording.
I am here to speak on a panel about the internet, music delivery and the disruption that follows.
I am now armed with a Cingular 3G wireless card so even here in the southern desert I am able to get signal. I’m going to attempt to post as often as I can and also capture performances and speakers etc on the video camera. Calexico are due to play poolside this afternoon at this amazing resort that we are staying at. Stay tuned.

Dont they have waterslides at that hotel?
June 8th, 2007 at 9:31 amHeh, it’s nice to visit…but trust me on this one…you wouldn’t want to live there. I grew up in Tucson. No fun (sorry Calexico)…but while vacationing there is plenty to do. If you’ve got the time, head up to the Ventana Canyon resort, for those water slides try the Breakers water park, or head out to the Saguaro National Monument to learn how the hell anything survives in that 100+ heat you’ll be feeling by the end of the day. :)
