Recording music is taken seriously at Tape Op..
So the Tape Op conference is under way and a quick run through the vendor area finds hundreds of grown men [this conf is women-light, go figure,] drooling over racks of compressors, mixers, mics, speakers and amps. All I can think is that using these components these days makes for a very expensive way to record music that will be instantly turned into a 128kb MP3 file….

Defintely a very ironic conference when we are “leaning to the digital left”… I thought that sounded catchy.
June 8th, 2007 at 11:55 ambut they love recording which is a good thing….the digital issues will still need to be resolved..
June 8th, 2007 at 12:03 pmThe Tape Op folks seem to be embracing digital, otherwise they wouldn’t have put P-Moose into the mix.
It’s strange though how many stubborn almost-luddite holdouts there are when it comes to digital issues. One friend of mine is contemplating releasing albums on vinyl only because he is so anti-digital. “Skipping tracks” he says, “destroys the listening event”. Or somesuch.
I can’t wrap my brain around that sort of thinking. When I was a kid I always dreamt of living in the future, which was exactly this modern age–phones you could keep in your pocket, instant communication, and no more putting up with the other sensory bombardment nonsense associated with buying new music in a badly stocked shopping mall music outlet filled with zombies.
I just don’t want to eat a pill instead of dinner.
June 9th, 2007 at 5:44 amthe future is here in many ways as it has a way of not looking like you’d expect it to. as for the dinner as pill, I could have used it last night as I had such a large portion of food served to me at a mexican restaurant it was over the top….
June 9th, 2007 at 7:17 amwe don’t have to wear white robes in this digital utopia right? please say no.
June 10th, 2007 at 6:34 pmRobes are optional, but I’m afraid it’s shaven heads for EVERYONE. And don’t forget about the chrome-plated robot police officers…
June 11th, 2007 at 7:56 amTHX-1138 …isnt that the new chrome plated mic debuted at the Tape Op Conference this past weekend?
June 11th, 2007 at 8:09 amer new mic…I must have missed that…
June 11th, 2007 at 8:29 amI could always go on a bee tangent.
June 11th, 2007 at 9:14 amthe bees may enjoy that…I really meant that the whole weekend was a blur and I missed most things, especially the gear.
June 11th, 2007 at 1:48 pmah ha!…you HAD TOO MUCH FUN!
June 11th, 2007 at 2:50 pmare there bees in tucson? killer ones? better yet—has michael caine ever shot a movie about bees in the arizona desert? what kind of mic did they use on set to capture audio? see how this all runs together…..
