Print magazines, tactile and fun, hang in there.
I’ve been looking forward to this for a while – the ability to sell music directly from our artists to their fans without using a third party. The download store is in its infancy and at the moment, because of the high cost of delivering single tracks, we can only offer full-album downloads. But we can offer our albums at lower cost than iTunes as 256k files, i.e. twice the size and quality, and also without the Digital Rights Management (DRM) locks. That means that our MP3s can be played on any portable MP3 player and shared with your friends – but we know you won’t do that, right?!
Before we load up the download area with lots of fine Portland music we are testing the waters by starting with a solo CD of mine that has been out of print for some time. You can sample a track below and if you happen to like it you can click here or on the CD image to the right and download it for only $6.00.

February 2nd, 2007 at 10:14 amI know, ain’t life grand but full of unintended consequences….? We will be selling other folks music downloads but at least I can guarantee that artists and labels will receive more from us than from the other aggregators in terms of their share….
